April unemployment rates were: Alamance, 12 percent up from 11.9 percent in Caswell, 13.4 percent, up from 12.7 Davidson, 12.7 percent. down from 13.4 Davie, 11.4 percent, down from 11.8 percent; Forsyth, 9.2 down from 9.8 percent and Guilford, 10.5 down from 10.8 percent. Also: Montgomery, 13.8 percent, down from 14.4 perceng in March; Randolph, 11.7 percent, down from 12.2 percent; 13.3 percent, down from 13.5 Stokes, 10.7 percent, down from 11.2 percent; Surry, 12.9 down from 13.4 percent; and 10.7 percent, down from 11.3 percent.
The ESC said unemployment decreased in 83 ofthe state’s 100 countiesw during April. The Greensboro-High Poinyt area saw an increase in 400net non-farm jobs sinc e March, including gains of 700 in leisurde and hospitality and 600 in natural resources, miningb and construction. Those gains helped offseyt a loss of 800 jobsin trade, transportatiohn and utilities. Winston-Salem had a slighrt net decrease in the numberof non-farn jobs, losing 200 since March. Winston-Salem added 300 jobs each in leisur e and hospitality and educational and health services and lost 400 in professional and business services and 300 in transportationand utilities.
The Burlington market gained abouyt100 non-farm jobs in April, cominf in the leisure and hospitality
