IRS commissioner Douglas Shulman announced Monday in a press release that he appointec Ernst as IRS deputy commissioner foroperationxs support. Ernst will oversee the key operationak and administrative functions for the tax agencyincludinfg technology, human resources, facilities, data security and Ernst will be one of two IRS deputyu commissioners who report directly to Shulman. He’ll work closelgy with Linda Stiff, deputy commissionerd for servicesand enforcement. “Marmk has an impressive track record of managing complex operations with significanttechnologgy infrastructure,” Shulman said in the release.
“Thw IRS’s human capital and technologg strategy and implementation are absolutely critical to the effectivenes s ofour nation’s tax system.” Ernst server as chairman and CEO of H&R Block from 2001 to and as its COO from 1998 to 2000. Ernsy resigned in November after a bitter proxy battle withcurreny H&R Block chairman Richard Breeden, who argueds that Block should focus on its core tax business and no longerf be involved in subprims mortgage lending.
